Allegheny County

The Formation of The Port Authority - The first of a 6 part series dealing with PAT's history from the creation of the Port Authority through current. Part 1 covers the formation of PAT from 1956 through 1964, before PAT began transit operations.

The Early Years at PAT - The second of a 6 part series dealing with PAT's history from the creation of the Port Authority through current. Part 2 covers the early years of PAT's operation from 1964 through 1972.

The MOD Years at PAT - The third of a 6 part series dealing with PAT's history from the creation of the Port Authority through current. Part 3 covers the MOD years of PAT's operation from 1972 through 1980.

The 80's era at PAT - The fourth of a 6 part series dealing with PAT's history from the creation of the Port Authority through current. Part 4 covers the very active 80's era of PAT's operation from 1980 through 1989.

The Independent Operators - This section includes numerous links to histories on the 33 independent operating companies that were combined into the creation of PAT in 1964.

PAT Route History - This section includes links to various PAT routes over the years. It is far from being complete due to the large number of routes PAT had and currently concentrates on the routes that aren't around any longer.

Harmony Short Line - A brief history of the Harmony Short Line which was perhaps one of the most well known private operators in the Pittsburgh area. They went out of business prior to PAT's takeover.

Montour Motor Coach Lines - A brief history of the Montour Motor Coach Lines which operated in South Western Allegheny County from 1944 through 1953.

Beaver County

Beaver Valley Motor Coach - A brief history of the Beaver Valley Motor Coach Company.

Blair County

Logan Valley Bus Company - A brief history of Altoona's Logan Valley Bus Company from its creation in 1923 up to its takeover in 1959.

Erie County

Erie Coach Company - A brief history of the Erie Coach Company which was the predecessor of the Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority.

Fayette County

West Penn Bus Lines - A brief history of the short lived West Penn Bus Lines which replaced the last of the almost legendary West Penn Railway Company's streetcars.

Lawrence County

New Castle Area Transit Authority - A brief overview of the history of transit in New Castle since public ownership.

Washington County

Gradison Auto Bus Company - A brief history of the Gradison Auto Bus Company that operated in Washington and Allegheny Counties from 1925 through 1970.
